Projects

Graduate project, 09/2015-05/2016

“Mapping the county-level formaldehyde over North Carolina using satellite data” Affiliation: Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, UNC Chapel Hill Advisor: William Vizuete

The objective of this project is to create a county-level formaldehyde map for North Carolina using data measured by OMI on Aura satellite. The map was then compared directly with the health outcome map from NC DETECT system (i.e., emergency room visits for asthma), helping epidemiologists to study the health effects of formaldehyde over large population scale.

Undergraduate project, 05/2013-06/2014

“Characteristics and relationship of AOD and PM2.5 concentration over Qingdao” Affiliation: Department of Marine Technology, Ocean University of China Advisor: Wenzhong Chen

The objective of this project is to build seasonal prediction models for surface PM2.5 in Qingdao city, China based on AOD measured by Terra/Aqua MODIS, and various environmental variables including wind speed, temperature and relative humidity. The uncertainty of predicted PM2.5 was then evaluated by comparing with measurements from monitoring sites.
